Getting Involved

There are many ways you can get involved. Here are some specific things you can do to make a difference:

1. Raise awareness. Tell a friend about what you saw in this film. Learn more about Marina’s case, or other cases of acid violence worldwide, and the ways in which forms of violence against women are interconnected. Conduct research on the topic. Sponsor a screening of Finding Face in your community or at your school. Organize an event or conference to spread the word. Purchase a copy of the film.

2. Contribute. One way you can help is to contribute money or host a fundraiser. Funds are needed in three areas:

General fund.

Funds contributed to the general fund are used for outreach work to continue to raise awareness about the issue of acid violence against women in Cambodia. These funds allow us to distribute the film, screen the film in community and educational settings, and help defray the costs for Marina to travel to screenings and events.

Survivors portrayed in the film.

Funds contributed to the survivors portrayed in the film go directly to Tat Marina, Chhour Sreya, and the other women in the film and their families, to help with daily living expenses, medical care, and other needs and resources.

Human Rights Organizations.

Contribute to human rights and women’s organizations working to stop acid attacks and other forms of violence against women. Some that we recommend include: LICADHO, Cambodian Women’s Crisis Center, Acid Survivors Foundation.

3. Fight for justice for Marina, and other survivors of acid violence. You can get involved with Marina’s case specifically by writing a letter to Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen, demanding that the government of Cambodia take immediate action in her case, and demanding an end to impunity for perpetrators of acid attacks in Cambodia. [ADDRESSES BELOW]

You might also consider organizing a campaign within your own community—a letter-writing campaign, a public censure or boycott, or a media campaign to demand that perpetrators of acid violence and other forms of violence against women be held accountable, and that more resources be allocated for survivors. We recommend you write your Senator or US Representative urging them to get involved in the case.  We can provide concrete details to assist with this.

Additionally, we urge you to write the following people asking them for action on Marina’s case and urging them to arrest the perpetrators of the attack on Marina:
